Solar Turbines - Remote Region 4G/5G Cellular Coverage Expansion
April 25, 2025
Project Overview:
- Client: Solar Turbines
- Location: Texas
- Project Scope: Expansion of 4G/5G cellular coverage to remote locations, including challenging concrete building construction.
- Services Used in Project:
Challenges:
- The remote location presented significant logistical difficulties in terms of site access and transportation of materials and equipment.
- The 150,000 square foot building is constructed from 18” thick reinforced concrete walls effectively blocking what little donor signal that was available.
- Limited existing cellular infrastructure meant that weak donor signal for all carriers would have to be intercepted.
Solution:
- We utilize a mobile deployment model that allows us to travel, even to difficult-to-reach areas.
- Lidar technology was used for site surveying, which minimized delays due to architectural designers and RF engineers.
- Our team designed and installed a bi-directional amplifier system that uses a rooftop donor antenna to intercept and rebroadcast signal inside the building.
Results:
- The project successfully extended 4G/5G coverage to more than 300 employees throughout the concrete and metal building.
- Technology Design Group has installed 13 amplifier systems for this company since the first one in 2017.
- The macro network expansion was completed with zero safety incidents and received commendations from owners and management.
